Message of welcome from Dr. David Fleming, President of INTERCOM (Liverpool, UK)
|
 |
| Welcome to INTERCOM's website. This is a key ICOM international committee which draws together best museum management practice from all over the world at a time when we are all subject to a host of pressures, many of which we have in common. One of the ways we do this is to organise international conferences in different countries at which we exchange ideas and experiences, with speakers addressing themselves to themes identified as especially important in the host country. This conference is a rare opportunity to gather in the beautiful country of Taiwan, a country notable for its cultural riches and marvellous museums. I hope to welcome you in the city of Taipei! |

Message of Welcome from Dr. CHIU, Kun-Liang, Minister of the Council for Cultural Affairs |
 |
Welcome everyone to INTERCOM 2006 Annual Meeting and Conference in Taipei. We hope this conference will provide participants with a fruitful international exchange experience
As a member of the International Committee on Management (ICOM-INTERCOM), it is an honor for the Council for Cultural Affairs (CCA) in Taiwan to hold the annual meeting and conference this year. In recent years, CCA has been actively working to promote cultural and arts internationally as well as pushing for Taiwan professionals to participate in international non-governmental organizations. We hope to play the role of a facilitator to international museums, contributing unique Taiwan skills, and increasing our museums’ self-consciousness and the concept of product managing, so the quality of museum business in Taiwan can be raised.
We wish to thank INTERCOM for choosing Taipei to host the 2006 annual meeting and conference thereby allowing museum professionals in Taiwan to have the opportunity to share experiences and research results with professionals from all over the world. The uniqueness of individual museums has been showcased and there has been a further understanding of future museum trends. We hope the specially arranged cultural events during the conference will allow all participants to experience the dynamism of Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage and development of museums in Taiwan. Finally, we wish the best for the INTERCOM 2006 Annual Meeting and Conference and hope all participants will leave here with a fulfilling experience.

| Message of welcome from Dr. Lin Mun-Lee, chairman of the Chinese Association of Museums (Taipei) |
 |
On behalf of the Chinese Association of Museums (Taipei), I would like to extend our warmest welcome to all the participants in the INTERCOM 2006 annual conference in Taipei. We are delighted and honoured to host the conference in Taiwan.
In recent years the pace of change in Taiwanese society has been very rapid. People have become more conscious of aesthetics. The task of museums, public and private, is to explore new methods of management and to widen their role to meet the raised expectations and aspirations of the public, while at the same time striving hard to preserve the distinctive features of local culture in an increasingly globalised internet-reliant world.
I would like to thank the Council for Cultural Affairs for giving our association the opportunity to organise the conference. To all our sponsors, co-ordinators and helpers I also express our most sincere thanks. Their tireless efforts and high degree of co-operation have not only made the conference possible but have broadened its scope.
We hope this conference will allow participants from within Asia and from the rest of the world to share their experience and the fruits of their research in ways that will be mutually beneficial. We welcome any suggestions for improvements in connection with the conference and we hope these will be made immediately and directly.
Finally may I wish success to the conference and good health for the participants. I hope everyone will take home happy memories of Taiwan. |
